San Francisco is where Tartine Bakery bakes on Guerrero Street, where Ferry Building gathers merchants at the foot of Market Street 1, and where the outdoor Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is a Foodwise certified market on the same waterfront — not the indoor shops. Sourdough became a civic story — argued on San Francisco sourdough, embodied commercially at Boudin Bakery, and baked cooperatively in the Inner Sunset at Arizmendi Bakery (9th Avenue). The Mill on Divisadero is a closed cafe-bakery.
The city eats what it does not grow. Marin County dairies and Napa Valley vineyards are the hinterland. Flour often arrives from plants just over the county line — Giusto's Vita-Grain in South San Francisco is one mill-and-processor node. Cowgirl Creamery belongs to that wider Bay Area more than to a current city shop. Neighborhood grocery: Bi-Rite Market. Civic Center produce: Heart of the City Farmers Market.
