Point Reyes Farmstead Cheese Company

Point Reyes Farmstead is a dairy that grew into a cheese make. The company’s history page places the family in Point Reyes farming since Waldo Giacomini’s move in 1938; Bob and Dean Giacomini bought 710 acres overlooking Tomales Bay in 1959 and shipped milk ¹. In the 1990s the herd was larger than the land and labor could sustain as a commodity dairy. In August 2000 the daughters launched the creamery with Original Blue, which the company calls California’s only classic-style blue ¹.

Original Blue is still made at the Point Reyes farm. In 2018 a second creamery, aging rooms, packaging, and distribution opened in Petaluma, about 22 miles east in Sonoma County ¹. Headquarters remain 14700 State Highway 1, Point Reyes Station ².

The place joins coastal Marin Milk to a blue-veined make that is an Affinage and aeration problem. The split between farm vat and Sonoma County plant is ordinary food-system geography. Cowgirl Creamery is a neighboring North Bay cheesemaking story. The broader craft is Cheese.
